Eleda, also spelled Eledaa, is a Yoruba word meaning the Creator, the one who creates. It functions first as one of the names or honorific titles of the Supreme Being, Olodumare, also called Olorun, to underline that he is at the origin of all creation. In this sense, Eleda is interchangeable with Olodumare and Olorun to designate the one God of Yoruba tradition. The term also has a personal dimension. It can refer to the particular creator of each individual, a principle intimately bound to the Ori, the inner head that bears the destiny chosen before birth.
