KAIKARA

Kaikara is a goddess of the harvests among the Banyoro (Bunyoro) of western Uganda. She is attached to the Bacwezi, those heroic and divinised figures venerated in the interlacustrine area. Before cutting the fields, the Banyoro offered her millet to secure good harvests. Tradition associates with her a husband, Kalisa, presented as a god of the hunt, and grants her a sanctuary, sometimes located at the cave of Semwema. The entity is modestly documented, above all through repertories of deities and the religious corpus of the Banyoro.
